About K. Slade

K Slade (she/her) is a Black creative writer and journalist pursuing a B.S. in digital journalism with a Japanese minor at Appalachian State University. She will graduate in May 2024. She currently serves as visual managing editor for The Appalachian, her collegiate newspaper, where she leads a team of six editors to produce and refine visual content for her paper. 

 

She also specializes in multimedia journalism, and has produced content ranging from Japanese maid cafes, Appalachian slavery and Watauga's local election.

 

Horror media deeply inspired her love for the craft, and in the future, K wants to write a script for a horror game. The Raven Review published her first short story Broken Bones in Jan 2024. 

 

In Fall 2024, K plans on attending The New School as an MFA Creative Writing candidate, where she she will blend her journalism endeavors with a creative writing thesis consisting of several short horror stories surrounding the media, consumption and the drive of sensationalism.
